# Gathering (Mining)

Mining in *Eternal Odyssey* has undergone a major overhaul to make resource gathering more dynamic and impactful to exploration.

#### ⚙️ Key Changes

* **Veins now spawn dynamically** after monster respawns, based on the monster's total health.
* Once a vein is mined, it **disappears entirely** — no more empty or reusable nodes.
* **Veins can appear on narrow 1 sqm paths**, potentially **blocking your route**.

> 🧠 **Tip**: Always bring a mining tool like a **Pick**, **Pickaxe**, or **Whacking Driller of Fate** — or risk getting stuck!

#### :hammer\_pick: Tools That Break Veins

To clear a vein (whether for mining or movement), use **any** of the following tools:

* `"pick"`
* `"pickaxe"`
* `"Whacking Driller of Fate"`

These items **instantly break** the vein on contact, allowing you to pass or gather resources.

> ⚠️ **No support** will be provided for being stuck unless it’s a genuine bug. You’ve been warned!

***

#### ⏳ Vein Duration & Cooldown

* **Vein Lifetime**: 30 minutes
* **Cooldown**: Once mined, veins will **not respawn** until another monster triggers the mechanic again.

### 📊 Vein Spawn Table

Based on the **total HP of the monster killed**, different veins may spawn with varying rarity and chances:

| Monster HP Range | Common Veins | Rare Veins | Notes |
| ---------------- | -------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------- |
| 20,000+          | Cobalt (50%), Malachite (30%), Gold (20%)    | Iridium, Red Beryl, Iron, Brass, Copper (each 15%) | End-game zones              |
| 7,000–19,999     | Malachite (45%), Gold (35%), Red Beryl (20%) | Iridium, Iron, Brass, Copper (each 15%)            | High-level monster areas    |
| 3,500–6,999      | Gold (40%), Red Beryl (35%), Iridium (25%)   | Iron, Brass, Copper (each 15%)                     | Strong mid-game content     |
| 1,500–3,499      | Red Beryl (50%), Iridium (30%), Iron (20%)   | Brass, Copper (each 15%)                           | Late mid-game               |
| 900–1,499        | Iridium (50%), Iron (30%), Brass (20%)       | Copper (15%)                                       | Rare veins begin to appear  |
| 300–899          | Iron (60%), Brass (30%), Copper (10%)        | —                                                  | Basic metals still dominant |
| 100–299          | Brass (50%), Copper (30%), Iron (20%)        | —                                                  | Beginner-friendly nodes     |
| 1–99             | Copper (100%)                                | —                                                  | Starter veins only          |

### 📈 Pickaxe Progression

Pickaxes determine **mining success rate** and **efficiency**. Higher-tier tools reduce depletion and improve yield:

* **Apprentice’s Pickaxe** – Free from Grizzly Adams or 50 gp. Can also be [crafted](/crafting.md).
* **Novice’s Pickaxe** – Crafted using early-game materials.
* **Miner’s Pickaxe** – Crafted with advanced materials.
* **Expert’s Pickaxe** – Top-tier; mines all vein types with the highest efficiency.

***

### 🎓 Gathering Skill

Mining (and lumberjacking) increase your **Gathering Skill**. Higher skill levels:

* Boost mining success and ore yield
* Unlock access to rarer veins
* Allow [crafting](/crafting.md) of better pickaxes

> 🛠️ The more you gather, the better you become!

### 🔄 Mining Workflow

1. **Find and Mine Veins** – Triggered by killing monsters, based on HP
2. **Craft Ingots** – Convert ores into usable materials via Crafting
3. **Upgrade Tools** – Use better pickaxes for faster and more efficient mining
4. **Advance Your Skill** – Level up your Gathering skill to access the best nodes
5. **Repeat** – Optimize your route, team hunts, and mining cycles for maximum rewards
