#### **Dungeon Difficulties**

Dungeons in Eternal Odyssey are available in multiple difficulties, each offering progressively tougher challenges and greater rewards. The difficulty levels include:

1. **Normal:** The baseline difficulty, suitable for players who are starting their dungeon adventures.
2. **Hard:** Features an Elite Boss, providing a step up in challenge and reward.
3. **Expert:** Includes a Champion Boss, significantly increasing the difficulty and the potential loot.
4. **Master:** Home to an Overlord Boss, offering one of the most challenging encounters in the game.
5. **Insane:** Some dungeons also feature difficulties ranging from Insane I to Insane X, with each level representing a massive increase in difficulty and rewards.

#### **Monster Spawn Mechanics**

Within dungeons, normal monsters spawn randomly with varying tiers from Normal up to Overlord. As the dungeon difficulty increases, the chances of encountering higher-tier monsters also increase, adding to the challenge. Also creature products monster loot inside a dungeon has been reduced, in order to prevent infinite dungeon runs.

* **Normal Monsters:** These spawn randomly and can range from Normal to Overlord tier, similar to the normal map.
* **Dungeon Boss:** The boss in each dungeon is guaranteed to spawn according to the selected dungeon difficulty. For example, selecting Expert difficulty ensures a Champion Boss will appear.

#### **Crystal Shards**

Dungeons are the primary source of Crystal Shards, essential materials used for item upgrading. There are five types of Crystal Shards, each corresponding to different item rarities and [Item Upgrade](/item-upgrade.md) requirements:

1. **Tier I Crystal Shards:** Used for Tier 1 items
2. **Tier II Crystal Shards:** Used for Tier 2 items
3. **Tier III Crystal Shards:** Used for Tier 3 items
4. **Tier IV Crystal Shards:** Used for Tier 4 items
5. **Tier V Crystal Shards:** Currently N/A

These shards can be obtained from the Dungeon Chest Reward after defeating the dungeon boss. The chances of obtaining different types of shards vary and can be viewed in the Dungeons window in-game.

#### **Dungeon Challenges**

Some dungeons come with unique "Challenges" that add an extra layer of difficulty and offer special rewards. These challenges may include objectives like:

* **Killing All Monsters:** Defeat every monster in the dungeon.
* **Lighting All Angel Statues:** Find and light all angel statues within the dungeon.

Completing these challenges can yield valuable rewards, including Tomes of Knowledge, which grant Passive Skills to enhance your character's abilities. It is always worthwhile to check the specific challenges for each dungeon, as they can significantly impact the dungeon's difficulty and rewards.

#### **Finding Tomes of Knowledge**

In all dungeons, you can find [Tomes of Knowledge](/passive-skills/tomes-of-knowledge.md). These ancient books are crucial for gaining [Passive Skill](/passive-skills.md) Points. To gather the Tomes, players need to read the specific Challenges for every dungeon to understand how to proceed. Accessing Tomes may require completing particular actions or overcoming additional obstacles within the dungeon.
